About the laboratory
History
The laboratory LBVpam was established in 1981 as part of the Jean Monnet University specializing in the study of volatile plant compounds. Early on, the laboratory started the work on Lavender, Pelargonium and Roses, and through the 90’s and until today, have continued with these three plant genera. Since then, several other species have been included in the research of the laboratory. Learn more about our plant models.
In 2021 we were granted the label UMR (UMR 5079) from CNRS E&E.
Research topics
LBVpam lab specializes in the study of the diversity and biosynthesis of volatile compounds in aromatic plants.
Since the establishment of the laboratory, the research has gradually moved from morpho-anatomical studies to methodologies that use transgenesis of aromatic plants, including the analysis of genes involved in the biosynthesis of volatile terpenoids, perfumes and essential oils, with several industrial partners.
The research thematic includes synthetic biology tools to engineer plants, biochemical characterizations of enzymes and receptors, storage and transport of volatiles, chemical ecological studies of intra-plant interactions, and plant-insect interactions. This focus is unique in France.
