Ecological impactof volatile compounds
This research focuses on the interactions that plants have with the surrounding environment through volatile chemical communication.
This also includes intra-plant chemical communication. It involves the understanding of complicated signal pathways that regulate and influence the biosynthesis, active transport and release of these volatile compounds. Understanding these signal pathways and their genetic regulation is crucial, as they can provide insights into the physiological and ecological roles of volatile terpenoids in communication, defence mechanisms, and interactions with the environment.
This comprehensive approach enables us to draw connections between genetic, environmental, and evolutionary factors that shape the diversity and functionality of volatile compounds in different biological contexts, with a special focus on terpenoids.
In order to understand these traits, we also study the variability of volatile compounds and examine the differences that arise during different biotic or abiotic interactions within individual plants, as well as evaluating variations within and among different populations of plants. This also includes examinations of the diversity of volatile compounds across various species within a specific genus.
